What Would Old McDonald Say?

About e-farming that is. I live in Tulsa and recently read about this growing passion called e-farming? Wow! If you have ever wanted to own and work your own farm, you’re in luck. With the introduction of social networking sites such as Facebook, these farm simulation games such as Farm Town and FarmVille have really become popular. The games include cartoon-like graphics and involve the raising of livestock and planting and harvesting your own crops. They promote interaction among other players. One example of this is that you can visit other farms and send gifts such as plants that are needed by other players.
Zynga’s (the company that introduced FarmVille last month) vice president, Brandon Barber, is quoted as saying, “They’re less about stimulation and realism, and more about social interaction”. He adds that we as humans have a natural desire to nurture and harvest.
Both of these games are played for free. Zynga says money is made from online advertising and third-party payments for online surveys.
Of course you can purchase what are called “virtual goods” if you want to speed the game along. If you want to own a big, fancy farm, for instance, a structure that happens to take a lot of effort in the game to acquire, you can pay a dollar or two of real money to get your barn.
The game’s core demographic is women between the ages of 30 and 40 but men and women of all ages are playing.
So, if you want people to be singing about you one day, like they do Old McDonald, then get farming and enjoy!
