censusThere is real excitement  around the thousands of temporary jobs that will be available in our state with the 2010 Census coming next year.  Tulsa will have one of the five offices located throughout Oklahoma.  In fact, there will be hundred of thousands of available temp jobs nationwide.

The  jobs with the 2010 Census include: office clerks at approximately $10.25 an hour, census takers at $13.75 an hour, assistant crew leaders at approximately $13.75 an hour and group supervisors at approximately $15.25 an hour.  If you are in the field, this also comes with mileage reimbursement.

I was lucky enough to get one of these temporary jobs during the 2000 Census.  I worked as an office clerk, entering payrol information and hiring application data into the computer.  It didn’t pay as well as the Census taker position but I didn’t want to be outdoors.  I worked it around my regular job and made some extra income.  It was wonderful!

There is a 2010 Census Web site where you can find many more details.  The field office number for Tulsa  is (918) 877-3440.  Most of the hiring will occur in the spring of 2010, but they are taking applications now.

If you are looking for work right now there are many employment and recruiting companies in the Tulsa area that can help you.
